So, if you caught BBC Morning Live today you’ll have seen me back in my happy place, doing a bit of crafting with Geth. We made a decorated flower jar, ready to illuminate with fairy lights or an LED candle to create a rustic, glowing piece of decor!

I love this project, it’s a really fun one and you can get a bit creative with dried flowers to make something special to light up garden parties and bbqs (when the weather finally gets a bit brighter!)

Here are some instructions for you to have a go to make your own (or you can watch and craft along on iPlayer) It’s a really simple craft project that the kids can have fun with as well!

You will need:

–        Glass jar

–        Selection of flowers (or pre-dried flowers)

–        Scissors

–        ModPodge

–        Paint brush

–        Microwave

–        Kitchen roll/ towel

–        Twine or ribbon

–        Glue gun

To create:

  1. Take some natural flowers and sprigs and trim them to size.
  2. Lay down a piece of kitchen towel onto a flat surface and start to lay the flowers on top. The flowers shouldn’t be touching in any way, they need to be laid out completely separately to dry.
  3. Place another piece of kitchen towel on top of the flowers and place on a microwavable plate.
  4. Put this into the microwave and then heat on a high setting in 30 second increments, checking them each time, until the flowers are completely dry.
  5. Take a glass jar and paint a section with ModPodge glue.
  6. Position the dried flowers onto the surface of the glass and brush a thin layer of glue.
  7. Repeat the process until the entire jar is decorated with flowers.
  8. Brush over final layer of glue to ensure the flowers are secure.
  9. Finally, tie some twine or ribbon around the top of the glass vase and use the glue gun to fix in place.
