In 2021, I was delighted to be asked to be Smart Works Newcastle’s first North East Ambassador. The charity, which helps women to fulfil their true potential in the world of work, really struck a chord with me and the decision to join them was an easy one to make.
Smart Works believes in the power of clothes and coaching to transform a woman’s confidence. Their service is carefully designed, with kindness and respect at the heart of everything they do.
Each client receives a bespoke dressing consultation with two trained volunteers, to find a high-quality interview outfit that will fill her with confidence. This is free of charge and the clothes are hers to keep. This is followed by a one-to-one coaching session with an expert interview coach, where each client receives valuable interview preparation, unlocking her potential and enabling her to succeed at interview.
In just 8 years, Smart Works has opened 8 centres and helped more than 18,000 women.
The centres are powered by over 400 skilled volunteers who graciously give over 8,000 hours of their
time every year.
An amazing 62% of the women that they support go on to get the job within one month of their appointment.
And, 95% of Smart Work’s clients leave feeling more confident to succeed at their next interview.
