Hopefully, you’ll have heard that special Georgie song ‘The Blaydon Races’ (let me know if you have) well it’s actually about a real event – when you’re gannin’ along the Scotswood Road to see the Blaydon Races and it’s been going now for over 150 years (as per the song – twas on the ninth of joon 1862 on a sunny afternoon)
Well anyway, the lovely guys I work with at @parkerschauffeurs asked if I would join their team to raise money for a fab cause so I got talked into doing the race with them!
Now I have trained a little bit (you’ve seen I’ve been running on a morning again the last few weeks after being ‘thwarted’ with a terrible plantar fasciitis problem 🤣😬🙄) anyway I’ve not managed to get a 10k in this year, and my 5k pace is nowhere near my 30 mins I’d built up to last year so I kinda set myself the target of running it in under an hour (it’s a 10k) knowing I’d probably never manage it and would you believe I pulled in a time of 57 something!!!
I had the most amazing time – the atmosphere was fantastic, it was a wonderful route and the perfect evening for it, I made some lovely new friends and I’ll absolutely be back again next year for more! And it’s inspired me to keep on with my running! Back to training in the morning then!
