I’ve read some pretty awesome books recently so thought I’d share them with you – twofold – first because most of them were recommendations from my friends on social media so it’s good to repay that forward, but also in the hope that you’ll get a feel for what sort of stuff I like to read and hopefully make some other recommendations for me (I’m ALWAYS looking for suggestions!).
Verity – Colleen Hoover
I’d read a couple of Colleen’s last year (It Ends With Us and It Starts With Us) and absolutely loved them, and when I was walking through the airport this was highlighted as a ‘TikTok recommends’. I posted about it on my stories and had hundreds of people reply with ‘omg it’s awesome’, so I downloaded it on my Kindle and started it on the plane – honestly I couldn’t put it down and devoured it in under a day. It was IMMENSE! It’s dark, twisty and totally gripping – it messes with your head in the best kind of way.
Ward D – Freida McFadden
I saw loads of my friends last year posting pics of themselves reading The Housemaid series by Freida, so I jumped on the bandwagon and devoured the lot of them (she’s such a good writer – I love the twists in her books!). I’ve read loads of hers now (not read a bad one!), but particularly enjoyed this one recently. It’s set in a locked psychiatric ward and even though I knew there’d be a twist coming… I DID NOT see this one coming!
Thoroughly Whipped – Tilly Cole
I will warn you – this one’s pretty raunchy (ok, that might be the understatement of the year). Tilly’s actually a really good friend of mine (our kids are in the same class at school) and I loved her A Thousand Boy Kisses book (and the sequel – but warning, they’re massive tearjerkers!). I asked her what she’d recommend I read next from her collection and she suggested this. It’s really, REALLY steamy but totally not-put-down-able. If you were a Fifty Shades fan, you’ll absolutely love this.
The Prenup – Lauren Layne
My sister lent me her Kindle one day and this was on it, and it totally got me hooked on Lauren Layne books from there. Her stuff is so light and easy to read – proper good holiday reading. The Prenup is exactly what it sounds like – two people in a marriage-of-convenience arrangement who (of course) end up catching feelings. I must have read over 20 of her books now and it all started with this one. If you’ve not tried her yet, I’d recommend starting here.
A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas
A friend recommended this earlier this week when I was at a loss after finishing Verity so quickly. She hadn’t actually read it yet herself (it was on her list – she’d seen a load of recommendations for it) and I wasn’t sure at first (it’s all about faeries and magical realms) and to be honest all the way through I still wasn’t sure… BUT I finished it a few days ago and it’s still playing on my mind to the point where I’ve just downloaded the others in the series. So clearly, on reflection, although it’s not my usual genre – I’ve enjoyed it!
So there you have it – just wanted to share my top reads of the holiday. If you’ve read any of them, I’m keen to know your thoughts – and please send me any other recommendations you’ve got so I can fill up my Kindle ready for the next trip!
